Was. Past. Present.

I'm not sure how many people have this problem, but I for one do. When I first started writing, every sentence I wrote always had the word 'was' in it.
Ex: She was going to the store when yada yada yada.


 I've learned to control that impulse now and rarely use it. That's one monkey off my back.


Now, I've been wanting to write a novel in first person, present tense. Before I had a habit of mixing tenses. Past and the Present. I didn't try to do it, but it just happened.


I notice that when I take my time I'm able to write it out better.
